The Impact of Sponsorship

We asked Julie Cates, board member and longtime sponsor, to share her sponsorship journey. We are so thankful for Julie, her husband, Aaron, and their kids, as they have invested so deeply in the work God has allowed us to be a part of in Sierra Leone.

“Many years ago, my husband Aaron and I met Shanna and Jerome Crawford who introduced us to Komeo International Ministries. We immediately knew that we wanted to sponsor a child through this organization.

We believed this would be a way that we could actually change a person’s life with a relatively small amount of money.

So, about 12 years ago, we started sponsoring Tabitha as she was growing up in the Wellington orphanage. Little did we know at that point that our relationship with her would bring so much joy into our lives.

We have had the opportunity to communicate with Tabitha regularly through WhatsApp over the years and as she grew up, we were even able to get her through college as one of the first women to graduate from college in Sierra Leone! Shortly after graduation, Aaron and I along with two of our daughters, were blessed to be able to go to meet her in person! It was such an amazing experience!

Tabitha is now leading an evangelism to Muslims ministry through Komeo.

We are just in awe of what God has done in her life and thankful that He has allowed us to partner with her every step of the way! God is truly so, so good!”
